Ernie wrote a plugin for Lutz Roeder’s Reflector that takes a URL to a Silverlight page and finds the assembly for that page.  It also loads up the JavaScript and root Xaml for the page.

He announced last week that he has joined Adobe, it surely helps the RIA world, as a very knowledgeable person is surely going to help the technology. 1 thing I am surely going to miss Ryan’s honest opinion, as whatever he says would be all nice things about Adobe whether the product is good of bad.

One of known personalities of RIA Mr. Ted Patrick writes “MS Silverlight Vs Adobe Flash Player, Begun the clone war has”. Surely the article is not written in good taste, it surely shows the fear and uncertanity that Adobe has in mind after the announcement of Silverlight.

At MIX07 Microsoft came out with tools and technology that Adobe had not even thought in dreams that Microsoft can do it. People have been comparing Silverlight with Flash, what I would like to put here is that Silverlight is not only a Flash Killer but its much more bigger than that. Flash on the other hand does not have the capabilities that Microsoft Programming platform has. Since Silverlight applications can be designed in Visual Studio and Expression Studio the possiblities are now endless.

Lot of talk is happening about Flex, but people should remember that Flash is not successful because of Flex. Flex’s sole existence was for Enterprise and not for web developers. Overall WPF and Silverlight have a very small focus on competing with FLASH player, in fact Silverlight is much more better than Flash.

 Most important thing about Silveright is the CLR support. the biggest news of Mix07 was that it is making version of its Common Language Runtime (CLR) available cross-platform. CLR is the heart of Microsoft’s .NET Framework programming model, hence .NET Framework is’nt just for Windows any more. Now Silverlight will plug into Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari Browsers, meaning the slimmed-down CLR will now run on these platforms. I hope the question of masuran is answered that there is no support for Linux .

Before bashing Microsoft technologies have a look at the experience of Microsoft in programming language. Ted’s most commong line seems to be “90% penetration”, but Ted remember that as you said when Flash came in market it took lot of time for it to gain momemntum as people were not aware or were not intersted to use Flash. I would like to use few quotes from Ryan Stewarts Blogpost “Where Microsoft benefits from the Rich Internet Application developer problem”. Ryan says that Flash/Flex developers are in high demand, yes they surely are and that makes them short supply. Silverlight is built on .NET and a good amount of developers, infact more than half the developers are using .NET that what makes these developers adopt silverlight easily. XAML is not that difficult to learn, is it? I don’t think so. Hence it makes Silverlight spread faster than what Flash had in its initial years.

Ted in “market penetration” section of its post gets cough when he talks about Windows Update. So are there no updates provided by Adobe for Adobe reader. It has become a good trend when Microsoft does something its called an antitrust, if competitors do it then its called that its done for community.

Silverilght has already proven its video capabilities. It has just been released, guys allow it to be RTM and then we can talk about it. Its still in beta stage.

One thing is for sure Adobe is now fearing its stand in the market.

Talking about designer and developer integration we can say that since Expression Blend generates XAML output which can be easily opened in Visual Studio, hence developers and designers can share the same file without disturbing each others work.

Beta version 1.0 is released in the event. This includes windows media support . The second version, the alpha of silverlight 1.1 is also available. This release includes support for the CLR on Mac and other developer related feature.

Silverlight will containg the CLR. It allows the .NET developers to deploy full applications even for Mac. The CLR is fast and effeciet and it runs on the Mac as a web browser plugin while using XAML for the presentation layer.

Scott Guthrie presents some of the cool Silveright demo which runs on Windows as well as Mac. One more big news Blend Beta 2 is also announced. Its all about Microsoft today. This event will be for 3 days and we can expect more cool news. It surely proves that microsoft rules the RIA wave.
